87% of recruiters, including us here at Working Solutions, utilise LinkedIn at some point during their recruitment and selection process whether it’s to find potential candidates for a role or to screen those who have applied for an existing role.
Looking for your first job? A career change? Or are you an employer looking to fill a role?
87% of recruiters, including us here at Working Solutions, utilise LinkedIn at some point during their recruitment and selection process whether it’s to find potential candidates for a role or to screen those who have applied for an existing role.
LinkedIn can be an incredible tool for you during your search for work and it is still just as relevant after you begin your new role.
Being able to build your network of professional connections could prove useful in so many ways and open up opportunities you previously wouldn’t have considered. But with 756 MILLION users on the LinkedIn platform, how can you make your profile stand out from the crowd?
1. Upload a clear profile photo!
Employers are constantly receiving CVs and cover letters with information about you but they have to imagine what you look like until you meet them at the interview stage, or even until you start the job! A great first impression could be made if your LinkedIn profile has a clear photo of you and always remember, a smile can go a long way!
(As a bonus, you could be wearing your typical work clothing to show that you mean business!)
2. Expand your network
First step, you should connect your contact list to LinkedIn so it can suggest people that you already know to connect with. From there on, you can look through suggestions, search users working in industries you are interested in, or even people you have mutual connections with.
When you add new connections, try sending a message with the request to start up a conversation and let them know you are building personal connections rather than another person behind a screen adding people for appearance rather than opportunities.
3. Request endorsements and recommendations
Endorsements are a way for people who you have worked for, or with, to back up your listed skills, and make you more credible. Recommendations are another great way to show your credibility, having a written statement about why it was a pleasure to work with you.
Don’t be afraid to ask relevant connections you have to endorse your skills or write you recommendations, but don’t forget to return the favour and do the same for others.
4. Interact with posts
Just like you would on Facebook or Twitter, leave a like or comment to let people know that you agree, or possibly don’t and want to share your opinion, or maybe want to learn more about what they are saying. Sharing a post will allow you to share a post with your connections, and can let you start up some interesting conversations with your network.
